According to a report recently released by Frost & Sullivan consulting company, the annual growth rate of China's engineering plastics market is expected to reach 10.2% by 2013, and the annual demand will be close to 3 million tons at that time. The growth rate of sales is slightly faster, with an average annual growth rate of 11.2% in the next five years, and the sales in 2013 is about 11.56 billion US dollars. The main driving factors include the steady development of the automotive, electrical and electronic industries, as well as improvements in technology and applications. The report also pointed out that China's low production costs will stimulate investment in engineering plastics production. The report also predicted the development prospects of different kinds of resins in the next five years.
In the next five years, the nylon market will return to a high growth rate of more than 16%, ending the slowdown in 2006. But the report points out that nylon prices and profits are shrinking. The use of recycled nylon, metal and other polymer substitutes has a certain impact on its development.
Polycarbonate market has been low since 2005, mainly due to the sharp rise in prices. Customers changed to the practice of large orders and chose to buy according to the actual demand. The report also listed China's lack of core technology for DVD production as a prominent market constraint. In the next few years, the annual growth of output in polycarbonate market may reach 9%, and the annual growth of sales will be 10%.
In 2006, the sales of POM showed a negative growth, although its output maintained a positive growth and its price dropped slightly. The report predicts that in the future, the market sales will increase by 5% - 10% per year.
The rapid development of the automotive industry has promoted the strong growth of PBT, with an increase of nearly 10% in both production and sales.
The high profit market of polyphenylene oxide is attracting more enterprises, including Chinese local enterprises and multinational companies. By 2013, the market is expected to grow at 10.7% a year.
The report also highlighted the imbalance in market share between Chinese local enterprises and multinational suppliers. In China, more than half of the sales of engineering plastics come from large multinational giants, such as saber foundation innovative plastics (formerly GE Plastics Group), DuPont, Baoli, Mitsubishi engineering plastics, Bayer, Asahi chemical, BASF and teiren. The market competition is fierce.
